Orchard United Set Early Pace as Killeavy Hit Five

By Kevin McAteer

Orchard United have emerged as the early leaders of the Carnbane League First Division after making it two wins from two, while Killeavy United produced the biggest victory of Saturday’s action with a five-goal demolition of Ashgrove Rovers.

It may only be two weeks into the 2026/27 campaign, but the early First Division table is already beginning to take shape.

And sitting at the top are Orchard United, who maintained their perfect start with a 4-2 victory over Finn Harps.

After edging a remarkable nine-goal encounter against Church Street 5-4 on the opening weekend, Orchard have now collected maximum points from their opening two fixtures.

They have also scored nine goals in just two games, leaving them top of the table with six points.

Killeavy hit five

One of the performances of the weekend came from Killeavy United, who recorded an emphatic 5-0 victory away to Ashgrove Rovers.

Killeavy had opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Greenfield Park, but Saturday’s result takes them onto four points and gives them an impressive +5 goal difference.

That is enough to put them second in the early table.

Greenfield Park remain unbeaten

Greenfield Park are also yet to taste defeat after securing their first victory of the campaign.

Following their opening-day draw with Killeavy, Greenfield travelled to Newry Rovers and came away with a convincing 3-0 victory.

They now sit third with four points, behind Killeavy on goal difference.

Cartwheel United occupy fourth position on three points having played just one league game.

Church Street and Rockview share the points

Elsewhere, Rockview and Church Street played out a 1-1 draw, giving both sides their first point of the season.

Finn Harps and Ashgrove Rovers also remain on one point after suffering their first defeats of the campaign, while Newry Rovers are still searching for their first point after playing their opening league fixture.

First Division Results – Saturday 22 August

Ashgrove Rovers 0-5 Killeavy United

Newry Rovers 0-3 Greenfield Park

Orchard United 4-2 Finn Harps

Rockview 1-1 Church Street

First Division Table

1. Orchard United – 6 pts (+3)
2. Killeavy United – 4 pts (+5)
3. Greenfield Park – 4 pts (+3)
4. Cartwheel United – 3 pts (+2)
5. Church Street – 1 pt (-1)
6. Finn Harps – 1 pt (-2)
7. Rockview – 1 pt (-2)
8. Ashgrove Rovers – 1 pt (-5)
9. Newry Rovers – 0 pts (-3)

Orchard may have established the early advantage, but with Killeavy and Greenfield both unbeaten and Cartwheel having played a game fewer, there is little separating the leading pack at this early stage.

If the opening two weekends are anything to go by, the battle at the top of the Carnbane First Division could be one to watch this season.
