Newry has earned itself a rather unexpected place in the UK rankings – after being named among the country’s highest-ranking locations for sex toy purchases.
New figures from sexual wellness retailer Lovehoney’s 2026 UK Sex Map place Newry 31st out of 691 locations overall, according to the company’s purchasing data.
When you dig a little deeper into Newry’s results, things get even more interesting.
The city ranks 25th in the UK for strap-on purchases, while Newry comes 29th for roleplay products and 37th for vibrators.

There are a few other insights into local buying habits too. According to Lovehoney’s data, the average dildo length purchased in Newry is 7.1 inches, with an average girth of 4.5 inches.
When it comes to lubricant, cherry is Newry’s favourite flavour, while the city’s favourite costume category is listed simply as “assorted.”
The figures form part of Lovehoney’s annual Sex Map, which uses purchasing data to compare towns and regions across the UK and reveal trends in sexual wellness purchases. Lovehoney describes the exercise as a way of examining which parts of the country are buying the most across categories including vibrators, bondage, strap-ons and roleplay.
The 2026 national results saw Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire take the overall top spot, with Lovehoney’s data showing southern locations dominating a number of the leading product categories.
While Newry might not have taken the UK crown, 31st out of 691 certainly suggests the city is punching well above its weight.
And with a 25th-place finish for strap-ons, we’ll probably just leave the people of Newry to explain that one themselves.
