As the countdown to the new Carnbane League season comes to an end, clubs across the region will once again dream of league titles, promotion, cup success and local bragging rights. After months of preparation, the wait is almost over, and the opening fixtures will provide the first glimpse of what promises to be another exciting campaign.
While every team begins the season full of optimism, one club enters the new campaign with a target firmly on its back.
Champions Looking to Defend Their Crown
Cleary Celtic produced one of the most dominant league campaigns in recent Carnbane League history during the 2025/26 Premier Division season.
The champions won all 14 league matches, collecting a perfect 42 points, while finishing with a remarkable goal difference of +64. It was a season defined by consistency, attacking football and defensive strength, leaving the rest of the division chasing shadows.
That record makes Cleary Celtic the team everyone will be looking to beat in 2026/27.
Can Anyone Close the Gap?
Newry Celtic finished as runners-up last season after collecting 27 points, securing second place with a solid campaign of their own.
Although they finished well behind the champions, they demonstrated enough quality throughout the season to establish themselves as Cleary Celtic’s nearest challengers. The question now is whether they can reduce the gap and mount a genuine title challenge this time around.
Behind them, Villa Rovers and Millburn United were separated by just two points, highlighting how competitive the race for the top four became.
Both clubs will believe further improvement could see them move even closer to the league’s leading teams.
A Fresh Look Premier Division
The new Premier Division has a different look this season.
Ballyholland, Cleary Celtic, Mayobridge, Millburn United, Newry Celtic, Rossowen and Villa Rovers will contest the title, with Mayobridge arriving in the top flight after earning promotion.
Every newly promoted club brings fresh enthusiasm, and Mayobridge will undoubtedly be eager to prove they belong among the Carnbane League’s elite.

With league positions reset and every club starting on zero points, the new season offers fresh opportunities for every squad.
Some clubs will be chasing silverware. Others will target promotion or a top-half finish.
