Social Democratic and Labour Party Leader Colum Eastwood MP has welcomed Jackie Coade to the party.
Ms Coade has joined the SDLP and will be one of the party’s candidates in the Craigavon area in the upcoming local government election.
Foyle MP Mr Eastwood said:
“I’m absolutely delighted to welcome a person of the caliber of Jackie Coade to the SDLP. For a number of years she has been an outstanding advocate for people across the district and marked herself out as someone with a bright future and a huge contribution to make to politics here.
“The SDLP is always looking for talented people who want to make a contribution to their community and that Jackie has decided to join us shows the wide appeal that the party has. I hope that Jackie will find this a welcoming and supportive environment and I look forward to seeing her returned as a councillor in May.”
Ms Coade said:
“I’d like to thank everyone in the SDLP for the warm welcome I have received following my decision to join the party. I believe this is a party with an exciting future and that the SDLP is best placed to help me continue my cross-community work for people in Craigavon and right across this area.
“I have so much that I want to achieve in politics, people are facing so many challenges right now and I’m incredibly frustrated that politics isn’t delivering for families in the way that it should. My main motivation to enter politics was to help people and I’m delighted to have been given the opportunity to continue doing that in the SDLP.”
