An emergency motion submitted by Sinn Féin councillors, urging the Department for Infrastructure to reconsider their decision to proceed with a fixed bridge for the Newry Southern Relief Road, has been passed by Newry, Mourne and Down district council.
“We are deeply disappointed with the Department for Infrastructures decision to proceed with a fixed bridge for the Southern Relief Road.”
“It is also frustrating that the Department was able to make this decision in the absence of a minister.”
“Sinn Féin have repeatedly raised this issue with the Department for Infrastructure and we have submitted an emergency Council motion urging the Department for Infrastructure to reconsider their decision.”
“Our waterways are an excellent resource and have great cultural and historical significance..”
