Sinn Féin councillor Valerie Harte has welcomed approval for plans to build 89 new homes in Newry at the former St. Clare’s convent.
The Newry city councillor said:
“I’m delighted that planning has been approved for 89 new social and affordable homes here in the heart of Newry city.
“This represents an investment of £12M into the city and will not only create homes for local people but will also see the creation of around 120 jobs during the construction process.
“I’m also glad that the developers have included 6 bungalows in the development for people with additional or limited mobility needs.
“The developer has said that the listed buildings on site will be protected and that they are keen to work with the local community in delivering this development.
“The building of these homes will help to address the need for housing in Newry and can take its place as one of a number of key projects that are helping to regenerate and transform Newry city.
