Sinn Féin councillor Declan Murphy has welcomed the progress made in the South Armagh Police Review but insists there is more to be done.
Councillor Murphy, Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Policing and Community safety in council, said:
“My colleagues and I received an update tonight from the PSNI about the progress of the South Armagh Police Review.
“There has been a lot of progress made, with a more visible and normalised service for our communities.
“The lack of progress on the closure of Crossmaglen Barracks and the redevelopment of Newtownhamilton barracks however, is disappointing.
“These buildings are relics of the past that do not reflect a modern, community led police service.
“The DUP’s refusal to form an executive has made it more difficult to progress key parts of the review.
“We need to see the restoration of the Executive to help resolve these issues and to give our local community a fit for purpose police service that they can have confidence in.
