Sinn Féin Councillor Declan Murphy has welcomed the approval of planning for 73 New homes in Newry as part of the Pearses gate development on Merchant Quay.
Commenting on the news of the approval, Councillor Murphy said:
“Over 70 new homes will now be built for workers and families in the heart of Newry.
“There will also be a number of commercial units built here as well, giving opportunities for new businesses to create new jobs here in the city and boost the local economy.
“11 parking spaces will be made available at the site for people with additional mobility needs or for those who wish to car club.
“This will be an important step if we are serious about encouraging the use of public transport, reducing our carbon footprint and meeting our climate objectives.
“Sinn Féin brought forward a plan to build 100,000 social and affordable homes over the next 15 years.
“The reckless actions of the DUP is hindering our ability to move forward with this project and deliver new homes for workers and families.
“The DUP should get back to work and help all parties work together to tackle the growing need for housing across the north.”
