A Newry man has appeared in court following the recent hijacking and assault on a female doctor who had just finished her shift at Daisy Hill hospital in Newry.
The accused who is from the Demesne area of Newry City, confirmed that he understood the charges against him whilst a police officer confirmed that she could connect him to the charges.
Appearing at Newry Magistrates’ Court by video link from police custody, 40-year-old Bernard Ward was charged with attempted hijacking and common assault of the woman on 31 January.
As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the PPS. A 30 year old man has also been arrested in connection with this incident and is currently in custody assisting officers with their enquiries.
As the investigation is ongoing police have continued their appeal for information.
