Newry & Armagh DUP Assemblyman William Irwin MLA has welcomed an update from the Health Minister on the Health & Social Care Staff Recognition payment for those in the independent sector in light of efforts in the fight against Covid19.
Mr Irwin said he had been contacted by staff who qualified for the payment but had since moved employers and had not received any further information as to the progress of their respective recognition payments.
He commented, “I have had a steady stream of calls from people keen to see progress on this matter and especially so as other colleagues in the health service have received their respective recognition payments.”
He continued, “I therefore tabled a parliamentary question to Minister Swann as I know that many people have been waiting on the progression of phase 2 of the scheme, however both staff and businesses in the independent sector had not heard any further detail on the scheme.”
He concluded, “I understand that Phase 1 of the scheme is currently ongoing and that for Phase 2 this detail will be passed to all independent sector care home and domiciliary care providers registered with the RQIA. Hopefully this process can now be speeded up and his important award distributed to these staff, who along with hundreds of others throughout the sector, have performed with such dedication in very difficult circumstances.”
