SDLP MLA Justin McNulty has condemned an attack on a frontline health worker in Newry. It is understood that the individual was physically assaulted on the grounds of Daisy Hill Hospital as the assailants attempted to hijack the victim’s vehicle.
The Newry & Armagh Assembly Member commented, “I am totally disgusted at the news of an attack by two thugs on one of our frontline health staff at Daisy Hill. I understand that the two men involved in the attack only left the scene after a passer-by intervened, so I dread to think what might have happened if that person hadn’t have come upon them. The woman who was attacked attended hospital to receive treatment for her physical injuries; I can only imagine how horrendous an ordeal this must have been for her and for her family. I hope she recovers and has not been traumatized by this horrible act of cowardice.
“I have contacted police and an arrest has been made. It is vital now that the second culprit is apprehended and proactive steps are taken by police to ensure that this never happens again.”
