Sinn Fein Newry Councillor Charlie Casey has welcomed the recent announcement of over £88,000 to upgrade Peter McParland Park at O’Neill Avenue in the city.
Speaking on the decision to upgrade Peter McParland Park Councillor Casey, Chair of Newry DEA stated:
“From the outset of the play park strategy in 2017, Council took the decision to monitor activities at this park and asked for the Audit a few years later which deemed the surface unfit for public use
The decision was then taken by Council to upgrade the park, resurfacing the entire pitch surface to tarmac, also included are a five a side enclosed soccer pitch, a netball court and a basketball court, smaller fencing is also included as are other cosmetic changes.
I would take this opportunity to thank the Council for undertaking the Audit of this park and recommending the benefit of three sporting codes. The people of the area have voiced their concerns and waited patiently for years for this upgrade.”
