Sinn Féin Councillor for Slieve Gullion, Oonagh Magennis has said road safety must be improved urgently at the Fords Cross junction in Silverbridge.
Councillor Magennis said:
“A spate of road accidents at the junction in recent weeks have highlighted the need for improved lighting, signage and road markings at the junction.
“Many of these accidents have been near misses so this danger must be addressed now.
Her party colleague, Barra Ó Muirí also commented:
“The vast majority of these accidents happen when vehicles coming from Crossmaglen direction fail to stop at the junction and then careering up the bank opposite.
“One of these incidents even ended with the car in the field behind the bank.
“For the past year myself and my colleagues Cllr Oonagh Magennis and Conor Murphy MLA have made the case for road safety to be improved at this junction.
“Enough is enough, this junction must be made safe for the people of South Armagh.
