Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has joined with MPs from across the United Kingdom in signing the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment, pledging support for Holocaust Commemoration on behalf of the people of Upper Bann.
Carla Lockhart said:
“Between 1941 and 1945, six million Jewish men, women and children were murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators in ghettos, mass-shootings, in concentration camps and extermination camps. If we held a minute silence for every person killed, we would be silent for eleven and a half years. The true scale of the systematic murder of Jews is hard to comprehend.
We must never allow the horrors of the Holocaust to be forgotten, nor the motivation for what happened. Indeed, it is truly worrying that antisemitism is on the rise again, here in the United Kingdom and across Europe.
Education and understanding of what happened is vitally important to combat this hate. The work of the Holocaust Educational Trust is vital in this regard, and I commend this wonderful organisation for ensuring the story of the Holocaust, and the lessons of the Holocaust, are known.”
