Tennyson Pays Tribute to Survivors Following Donaldson Trial Verdict

Alliance Deputy Leader Eóin Tennyson MLA has paid tribute to the victims of Jeffrey Donaldson, following news that he has been found guilty of 18 child sex abuse charges, including one charge of rape.

Mr Tennyson has said: “My thoughts are first and foremost with the two survivors at the centre of this case.

“Their remarkable courage and bravery in stepping forward has delivered justice, accountability and recognition of the horrendous abuse they have suffered.

“They did so in the full glare of the public spotlight and it is vital their anonymity is protected and respected. They deserve both our admiration and continued support.

“Whilst today’s verdict will not undo the harm they have experienced, I hope it will bring some level of comfort and closure to them and their loved ones.

“This outcome sends a clear message that regardless of office, standing, influence or position, no one is above the law.

“I am also conscious that reports of this trial may be deeply distressing for other victims and survivors of abuse in our society. Please know that help and support is available, and you will be believed.”
