Women’s Aid Armagh Down has launched a new ‘Buy a Brick’ fundraising campaign. This is part of ongoing efforts to support the development of Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the ELEOS Centre of Excellence in Newry. ELEOS a long-term vision to create a trauma centre for women and children in Armagh/Down and further afield, impacted by domestic and sexual abuse.
The campaign has been designed to make it easy for everyone to get involved, whether through an individual donation, a family contribution, a workplace initiative or a larger corporate sponsorship.
Supporters can purchase symbolic bricks at a range of levels:
- £10 for one brick
- £50 for five bricks
- £100 for ten bricks
- £500 for fifty bricks
- £5,000 to sponsor an entire wall
Phase 1 of the ELEOS Centre officially opened earlier this year following more than a decade of planning and development by Women’s Aid Armagh Down. Work is now focused on securing the funding required to progress the next stages of the project at number 7 Downshire Place in the city; and the children and young person’s hub within the ELEOS Centre of Excellence.
The completed vision for ELEOS will provide specialist, trauma-informed support services for women and children across the region who have experienced domestic/sexual abuse.
Eileen Murphy O.B.E., CEO of Women’s Aid Armagh Down, said:
“We understand that finances are strained for many people at the moment so we are asking the community to get behind us in any way they can. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will help us continue building something that is badly needed for women and children affected by domestic/sexual abuse.
“The ELEOS project has always been about creating a safe, supportive and trauma-informed environment where women and children can begin to rebuild their lives. More than 2,100 women and children accessed our services in this area alone, last year, with more than 7,500 in total across Northern Ireland.
Phase 1 was only possible because of the support we received from the community, businesses, funders and supporters across the region and we need your continued support. We hope to complete the project by adding additional space and a specialist children’s and young people centre.”
Eileen continued, “The Buy a Brick campaign is designed to be accessible to everyone. For some people that may be a £10 donation. For others it may be a workplace fundraiser, a
community group effort or sponsoring an entire wall. Every single contribution matters. It is a chance to come together, raise money, awareness and to truly make a difference.”
Women’s Aid Armagh Down is encouraging local businesses, schools, sports clubs, community organisations and workplaces to consider coming together to support the campaign as part of a collective fundraising effort.
