A man from Belleek has been convicted of stalking after sending a letter to a young girl expressing his wish to marry her when she turned 16.
At Newry Magistrates’ Court, 44-year-old Patrick Gerard Cumiskey, of Main Street, was found guilty of a single charge of stalking.
The court heard that police were alerted to the matter following a third-party report from a local councillor. The councillor had been contacted by the family of the girl, who raised concerns after she received a letter from Cumiskey in December of last year.
The correspondence, described in court as concerning, stated that the defendant wished to marry the girl once she reached the age of 16.
