Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins and Newry & Armagh MP Dáire Hughes met this week with Newry BID members to discuss important local issues including support for local businesses, street cleaning and community safety.
Speaking after the meeting, the Newry and Armagh MLA said:
“We focused on practical measures that can help local traders, improve safety in our streets in Newry for residents, shoppers, businesses and their staff.
“Newry is a great city and has huge potential. Our local businesses are strong and diverse, with a powerful workforce. Our location allows us to take advantage of all-Ireland social and economic opportunities, but we need to make sure the right conditions are in place by addressing local needs and removing barriers to growth.
“We will continue to work with local businesses and other stakeholders to address the challenges we face and to maximise our potential. Our objective is to create an environment that allows them to thrive, attract visitors and encourage people to shop, eat, socialise and invest in our city.
“Local businesses are also local employers. By fostering growth in our local small and medium sized businesses, we can help create new jobs in this area.
“Sinn Féin is committed to supporting our local businesses, creating exciting opportunities for our people and working with the business community to ensure every opportunity for progress is taken.”
