Sinn Féin MP Dáire Hughes has called on people from all communities and traditions to take part in an open public discussion on Irish unity, “Another Ireland is Possible: Discussing a Progressive and Equal New Ireland”, which takes place on Thursday 27th November in the Armagh City Hotel.
The event will bring together a panel of respected speakers from a variety of backgrounds to explore what a new and inclusive Ireland could look like socially, economically and culturally.
The Newry and Armagh MP said:
“This is a conversation for everyone. It’s an opportunity for people from all backgrounds to come together and have their say on building a better, fairer new Ireland.
“The debate on a new and united Ireland is growing from strength to strength. People from a variety of backgrounds are actively considering what future is in their interests. Irish unity affords us the opportunity to unlock our potential as an island. Unity gives us the opportunity to reshape our society, to build a country based on equality, rights and economic justice.
“I’m delighted that we will be joined by considered contributors to this debate; Claire Mitchell, Reverend Karen Sethuraman, Ben Collins, and Davy Adams, with Gerry Murphy, Assistant General Secretary of ICTU, chairing the discussion.
“Each panellist will bring a unique perspective on how we can chart our shared future together, a future that reflects the aspirations of everyone who calls this place home.
“There is a growing appetite for change.
“The future of this island belongs to all who live here. Together we can build a modern, prosperous and united Ireland that leaves no one behind.
“I warmly invite everyone, regardless of background or current position on our constitutional future, to come along, take part in the conversation and help shape a new Ireland.”
