Ulster Unionist Party Representative Councillor David Taylor has commented on the announcement from the Secretary of State that £15m funding will be made available to help those impacted by recent flooding incidents.
Councillor Taylor said:
“The announcement of financial support by the Secretary of State is a welcome development, however it is very clear that additional support is required for those businesses severely impacted by the recent floods across the District.
“I also note that the funding is not being allocated as additional support from Westminster to address the urgent need, rather it will come from Stormont’s existing capital budget.
“Many of the businesses affected will be incurring damage costs far beyond the £7500 offered under the package announced. In addition, I am conscious that they are unable to source income during their closure period, so further assistance is vital to getting them back up and running as soon as possible.
These businesses serve as the backbone of our local economy and as such the Secretary of State and local government departments must continue to work on delivering the necessary finance required to aid their recovery.
“I will continue to make representations alongside senior Ulster Unionist Party colleagues for this support to be provided within a swift timeframe.”
