Largest Ever Team of Sinn Féin Candidates to Stand in 18th May Council Election – Brady

Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady has said that the party is standing its largest ever team of candidates for election to Newry, Mourne and Down district council on 18th May.

Speaking after the candidates lodged their nomination papers at Monaghan Row in Newry, the Sinn Féin MP said:

“In this local council election Sinn Féin is fielding more candidates than ever before all across the north, with 10 candidates standing across Newry city and Slieve Gullion.

“This decision reflects the expansion and strength of Sinn Féin both locally and across Ireland, as well as our commitment to work for everyone in the community.

“This will give people from all across Newry and South Armagh the chance to endorse the positive and progressive politics of Sinn Féin.

“Our clear objective is to elect more Sinn Féin councillors and to build a bigger Sinn Féin team to work all communities across the district and ensure ratepayers receive the first class public services and facilities that they are entitled to.

“We are also committed to electing more female Sinn Féin representatives locally, and so 50% of our ten candidates seeking election are women.

“This will give the electorate an unprecedented opportunity to significantly influence the gender balance of the local council chamber, and also promote the equality of women in local politics and society.

“In this election you can send a clear signal, you can show your support for a party that is ready to work with others to get the Executive back up and running, to deliver first class council services for ratepayers and to begin fixing our Health Service.

“On May 18th I am asking you to show your support for Sinn Féin’s commitment to a politics that delivers for all communities.”
