SDLP Nominates McNeill as Portadown Candidate

The SDLP has nominated councillor Eamon McNeill as its Portadown candidate in the upcoming local government election.

Councillor McNeill has submitted his nomination forms to Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood said he was delighted to have a candidate of Councillor McNeill’s calibre contesting the election.

Foyle MP Mr Eastwood said:

“Eamon McNeill has served this area with distinction during the last council term. He has worked on behalf of people in this area for many years, long before he was elected to council, and I know that he has the best interests of the local community in his heart.

“This is a very difficult time for families across the North and we want to see as many SDLP councillors as possible returned so that we can get to work tackling the issues impacting families and making sure people get the most from their council services. Eamon McNeill will continue to be a strong voice for people in this area and will no doubt build on the hard work he has done for people here.”

Councillor McNeill said:

“It has been a privilege to serve the people of Portadown and the surrounding rural areas during the previous council term and I am proud of what we have achieved by working together in the best interests of the local community. However, I acknowledge this is a very difficult time for families who are facing huge pressures paying their bills and putting food on the table.

“As councillors we must work to address the problems facing the people who elected us, providing them with a strong voice in the council chamber and shining a spotlight on the issues that matter to them. If re-elected I will continue to be a strong voice for people right across Portadown and the surrounding area and will work with everyone in the best interests of local people.”
