Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady has said the purchase of the Monaghan Row site, along with investment to purchase the Abbey Way site, are key steps in securing the future of Daisy Hill Hospital.
The Sinn Féin MP said:
“The news that the Monaghan Row site has now been bought by the trust is very positive.
“This could allow services such as Hospital admin and the Medical Training Unit to relocate to the site, freeing up more clinical space for the delivery of services for patients.
“The investment of £4.5 million from the Department of Health for the purchase of the Abbey Way site for the construction of the Community Care and Treatment centre is also positive.
“When this facility is completed, it will see a number of key services for patients all delivered in one location, this could help to free up further space in Daisy Hill hospital itself for the delivery of services.
“These are the latest in a string of positive developments for Daisy Hill Hospital.
“As part of our work with the Daisy Hill future group we have helped to secure a £9.1 million investment to upgrade the Hospital electricity supply and have secured Daisy Hill’s status as an overnight elective surgical hub.
“We will continue to work with the future group and all parties locally to secure Daisy Hill Hospital for the future and to ensure the safe delivery of services for all.
“However, we need the Executive restored and all parties working together now to prioritise investment into our Health service.”
