Sinn Féin councillor Declan Murphy has welcomed a council proposal to create a community paint reuse project for the district.
The Slieve Gullion councillor said:
“There are currently over 290 tonnes of paint left into the Household recycling centres across the district every year.
“The cost of recycling all this paint is estimated to come to £250,000 annually.
“The proposed paint reuse scheme could allow up to 50% of the paint, normally disposed of, to be made available for re-use for local people.
“For community groups and local businesses, this would allow them easy access to paint for their Facilities or for other community projects.
“This project could help to save money for the ratepayers, as well as being a more environmentally green option by cutting down on the paint to be recycled and any other wastage.
“The application for funding for this project has now been submitted and will hopefully be successful and when this is in place it is hoped that we can move this project forward quickly.
