Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has welcomed a commitment from DFI to install a number of measures to improve road safety at Killean primary school.
The Newry and Armagh MLA said:
“Improving road safety at Killean primary school has been a priority for Sinn Féin and we have worked closely with the school and local residents for many years to deliver this.
“Following our latest site meetings in June and November 2022 with the school principal, DFI and Department of Education, I have now received confirmation that new signage and road markings are to be completed by the end of March.
Her colleague, Cllr. Cathal King added:
“While these measures are welcome, we need to continue working to further improve this, such as delivering a 20 MPH zone.
“DFI are currently reviewing their future rollout of the 20 MPH zones outside schools and we will continue to lobby them to have Killean primary school included in this scheme.
“Sinn Féin will continue working hard to improve road safety and quality for all across Newry and South Armagh.”
