Sinn Fein councillor Bróna Haughey has called for public bins in Markethill to be emptied more regularly.
The Sinn Féin councillor said:
“I’ve spoken with a number of local residents who have raised this issue with me.
“They have said that the current schedule for emptying these bins means that they are often left overflowing, with litter left lying out in public, some residents even taking to lifting the litter themselves to get it off the streets.
“I will contact the council and ask that they look at the possibility of having these bins emptied on a more regular basis to try and tackle this issue.
“I would also urge local people and businesses to be responsible and considerate when disposing of their waste and to do so in a safe and correct manner.
