SDLP Councillors on Belfast City Council have voted against a proposal to increase the local rate to 7.99% as families across the city struggle with the cost of living crisis.
Speaking after tonight’s meeting of Belfast City Council, SDLP Group Leader Dónal Lyons said:
“Belfast City Council should not be considering a significant rate hike at a time when people are struggling with the cost of living and businesses are struggling to keep their doors open. This council, which has spent too much of its time taking on the responsibilities of a quasi-Stormont department which it is ill equipped to do, should instead be meeting the needs of people in this city while delivering value for money. Right now it is failing.”
