Sinn Féin Councillor Oonagh Magennis met with DFI to discuss a number of flooding issues in Belleeks and Lislea.
The Slieve Gullion Councillor said:
“Serious flooding took place on the Newry Road in Belleeks village and the Mountain road in Lislea following the recent heavy rain.
“I arranged an urgent meeting with the DFI engineer for South Armagh to discuss these issues and what can be done to prevent these issues from occurring again.
“They have said that all drains in the vicinity of the flash floods in Belleeks will be flushed in the coming weeks to remove any blockages in the system.
“I also raised the issue of both the surface of the mountain road in Lislea and the flooding it has experienced.
“DFI have assured me that they will be carrying out a full assessment of the road in the coming weeks.
“Sinn Fein will continue to work to improve the safety of roads for residents and motorists across South Armagh.”
