Sinn Féin councillor Barra Ó Muirí has expressed his delight after the first meeting of the council’s ‘New Ireland Working Group’.
The Slieve Gullion councillor said:
“Following on from my motion to council last year, and working closely with colleagues in other councils who have launched similar initiatives, the working group met earlier this week.
“We discussed the need for real and positive constitutional change on our Island and how we can positively advance an inclusive discussion on a new Ireland across the council district.
“We suggested creating a dedicated space on the council website to collect academic papers and studies to help answer as many questions as possible for people in this discussion.
“The group agreed to work with Intertrade Ireland, The Dublin – Belfast economic corridor and the cross border working group between our own council and Louth County council.
“I look forward to working with all parties to take part in an inclusive and open discussion on the future of our Island.”
