Local MP Carla Lockhart and Lagan River representative Alderman Mark Baxter have requested that ABC Council assess the conditions of new pavements laid in Waringstown, following concerns about slippery surfaces being raised by members of the local community.
Carla Lockhart said:
“Even before the recent cold snap, several members of the community in Waringstown had raised their concerns concerning the slippery surfaces of the new pavements laid as part of the recent public realm scheme. Of course in recent days, with the ice and snow, this issues has been exacerbated and conditions have proved quite treacherous.
Along with my colleague Alderman Mark Baxter, we have been engaging with the Council about this issue. We have been assured that the paving met all the legislative standards and requirements. However, in light of community concerns, a further survey will take place to ascertain what might be causing this issue and what steps can be taken to address this for the safety of pedestrians.
People in Waringstown can be assured we will do all we can to ensure any remedial works that could be undertaken, will be undertaken.”
