Sinn Féin councillor Oonagh Magennis has welcomed an investment of over £461,000 for a substantial resurfacing scheme of the main Newry Road.*
The Slieve Gullion councillor said:
“After extensive lobbying on behalf of the road users and local residents, I’m glad to see that these works are now scheduled to begin on Monday.
“This investment will see a huge improvement in the surface of this busy main route into south Armagh.
“The works will see the road resurfaced and drainage upgraded from the longfield road junction all the way to the Mullaghbawn road junction.
“I am hopeful that other parts of the main road at Lislea will also be repaired in 2023.
“The works are scheduled to begin on Monday 21st November and are expected to last until the 23rd of December.
The road will be closed between 9.30am and 4.30pm and diversions will be in place during these hours. Local and emergency access will be accommodated throughout the works.
“I hope that these works will go some way to improving road safety for the residents of Lislea and all that use this road.
