Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has said the Education Minister must do more to support families who are still waiting on free school meals for their children.
The Newry and Armagh MLA said:
“The cost of living crisis is hitting workers and families hard, and delays in getting free school meal support out to children and their families is only adding further hardship.
“It’s been 7 weeks since schools started back, and for families to still be waiting on this much needed support is totally unacceptable.
“The minister must make back-dated payments for Free School Meals as soon as possible or the pressure on the affected families will only intensify.
“I have written to the Education Minister to highlight these issues and urged her department to deal with this as a matter of absolute priority.
