Councillors Briefed on the Way Forward for Camlough Lake Recreation Hub

Sinn Féin Councillor Oonagh Magennis and her colleague Councillor Declan Murphy have welcomed a recent positive update from the council on the project to build a recreation hub at Camlough lake.
Councillor Magennis said:
“Councillor Murphy and I, along with the Camlough lake users group recently met with the council to discuss the current stage of the project and how it would move forward.
“The plan is currently at a design stage where they are open to suggestions from Councillors and user groups before submitting a finalised design for planning consideration.
“The proposed design of the facility will aim to blend into the local scenery, falling between the two natural grass formations on site, in keeping with the ‘Crooked lake’ name.
“The facilities on offer will be a great asset to those who make frequent use of the lake with storage space for equipment, shower and changing facilities; with the architects hoping to incorporate ‘changing places’ areas into the design as well.
“The facility will also include a roofed, spaced area for events as well as an outside area for BBQ’s and a walking trail by the building to give pedestrian’s easier access to the facility.
“The idea for the development of Camlough lake began in the 1980s following proposals from former Councillor, Conor Murphy.
“Sinn Féin has consistently pressed the council to support the development of the lake and will continue to work with others to support this project and secure the delivery of this fantastic asset for Camlough and the wider South Armagh community.
“We hope that the council will be proactive in securing funding sources to ensure the project can move as quickly as possible.”
