A derelict site adjacent to both Monaghan Street and Railway Avenue in Newry City has come under increased criticism lately regarding its current state.
The site in question which at one point housed public toilets has been slammed by “community groups” and politicians with recent calls for Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to take action and clean up the site.

However Clanrye News and Sport can reveal despite messages from the public and severe criticism of NMD Council it turns out the land in question doesn’t actually belong to the council……its privately owned.
A spokesperson for NMD Council stated:
“Newry, Mourne and Down District Council does not own or have maintenance responsibilities for the area adjacent to Monaghan Street and Railway Avenue, Newry where Council public toilets were previously sited.”
Clanrye News and Sport have contacted LPS and environmental health, we are waiting for a response.
