Patrick Brown MLA expressed his thanks to voters after being elected as the first Alliance Party MLA for South Down last week.
‘The voters in South Down, and right across Northern Ireland, gave a clear indication that they are fed up with the way politics has been and they are ready for change. I am so excited to be joining a historic team of 17 Alliance MLAs, and to be the first ever Alliance MLA for South Down. I want to thank my fantastic team of volunteers and activists in South Down, who have worked tirelessly over the last weeks and months to secure this victory, and it is a testament to that hard work that I was third to reach the quota and be elected. I am incredibly proud of the campaign that we ran, focusing on an entirely positive campaign and securing our place as the third biggest party in South Down.’
He added: ‘I am excited to start work in Stormont this week, and hope that we can get the Assembly up and running as quickly as possible to focus on working towards a shared future and tackling the problems we face through delivery, not division. I want to thank the electorate in South Down for putting their trust in me, particularly the 6,942 who gave me their first preference. It will be the greatest honour of my life to serve you for the next five years.’
