William Irwin MLA has been successful in retaining his seat in Newry & Armagh for the DUP.
Speaking after his election on Friday night William said, “I want to thank the 7577 voters who gave me their first preference vote. As before I will pledge to work tirelessly for all the people of Newry & Armagh with sensible, forward thinking and helpful representation on the issues that matter most.”
He added, “I want to especially thank my Election Agent Alderman Gareth Wilson and Director of Election Cllr. Lavelle McIlwrath and all my election team who literally worked night and day for many weeks across the constituency. I also thank my family for their unwavering support and especially so my wife Olive who gives me tremendous support daily. This victory would not have been possible without them all. I also pay tribute to the election count staff for their efforts over many hours in counting the votes.”
He concluded, “I will be back at my desk on Monday and ready and willing to continue my job of representing the electorate. There are many challenging times ahead. Such times as these require composure and calm, reasoned, strategic thinking and I know that our Leader Jeffrey Donaldson, who has also been successfully elected, will show exactly those qualities and deliver on our election manifesto pledges and our 5 point plan. I thank sincerely the people who have entrusted me to represent them.”
