Newry based political party the IRSP have stated via their social media that recent events in Newry City regarding ambulance waiting times has resulted in a tragedy waiting to happen.
The comments come following the tragic death of Jody Keenan who sadly passed away whilst waiting on an ambulance.
Brendan Liddy IRSP spokesman, “ it is my understanding that a young woman took ill while out with friends in Newry. An ambulance was called, but never arrived in time, after being sent from Belfast; a distance of almost forty miles!”
Brendan continues “ this is absolutely appalling. After talking with medical people at Daisy Hill, I’ve been told that there was only two ambulances covering the whole of the Southern Area, which ranges from Crossmaglen to Kilkeel/Annalong and both ambulances were at Craigavon; how can this be? “
“Sadly, this was a tragedy waiting to happen. The Southern Trust have been playing Russian Roulette with peoples lives and now a local family have paid a terrible price for their continued failures. They tell us that we are best served by centralising Healthcare at Craigavon. The sad reality is, more people will perish due to their negligence of care. I wish to pass on my deepest condolences to the family and friends of this young woman”
