Mackle Calls for Empty Properties to Be Made Habitable

Sinn Féin Council Group leader Liam Mackle has called on private landlords who own empty properties to make them habitable.

Cllr. Mackle said, “We are currently in the midst of a housing crisis, which will take time and money to tackle, and thankfully my party colleague Deirdre Hargey has introduced important plans on this. However, I have noted that there are numerous vacant properties, particularly in the North Lurgan area.

I am calling on whoever owns these dwellings to consider bringing them back into use or selling them on. Empty homes can create a health and safety risk, can attract vermin, can be a focal point for antisocial behaviour, and can bring the value of an area down dramatically.

While the housing crisis is significant, properties lying vacant does nothing to alleviate the problem, and making them available for occupancy will go some way, however small, to helping move things in the right direction.

Please feel free to contact myself or any of my council colleagues if you know of a derelict property near you.”
