Conor Murphy, Sinn Féin MLA for Newry Armagh and Finance Minister has made it a condition for anyone who gets a government contract to pay their workers a living wage.
This measure will come into effect next year and will put more money into the pockets of thousands of workers.
Conor said:
““Every worker should be paid a living wage, that’s why I’ve made it a condition for any business winning a new government contract to pay their workers the living wage.
“This will put more money into the pockets of workers across a variety of industries- including health, social care, cleaning, construction and hospitality.
“At a time when the cost of living is rising and families are facing financial challenges, properly valuing workers by paying them a living wage will help support so many families and communities.
“This is Sinn Féin in government, standing up for you, putting workers and families first and working to deliver new, secure and well-paid jobs.”
