Cathal Boylan MLA has called for efforts to tackle the driving test backlog to be revamped after hearing that the DVA are looking towards the end of 2022 to clear the backlog.
The Newry and Armagh MLA stated:
“Reports that the driving test backlog may not be addressed until the end of 2022 will be distressing to learning drivers.
“Many people waiting for a test need it for work purposes and day to day life. Not getting proper access to a test has caused frustration across the north since the onset of covid.
“DVA officials at the Infrastructure committee today stated that recruiting additional driving examiners, to help increase testing frequency, was not going as good as they hoped.
“The Minister for Infrastructure Nichola Mallon and the DVA needs to look at revamping efforts to increase testing capacity and get people better access to a driving test.
