Finance Minister Discusses Budget With Newry Businesses- Murphy

Conor Murphy, the Finance Minister and MLA for Newry and Armagh met with a number of businesses today at an event in Newry, organised by the Newry Chamber of Commerce to discuss the 2022-2025 Budget.

Speaking after the event Conor Murphy said:

“I enjoyed the chance to speak to so many local businesses in person again in Newry and I thank the Chamber of Commerce for Organising this event.

“My priority throughout the pandemic has been to ensure that as many businesses as possible were supported, with my department allocating £115M to businesses across Newry, Mourne and Down to protect jobs and support workers and families.

“Unfortunately the spending review did not increase the Executive’s spending power and while we will see some increase in cash resources, when inflation is taken into account it is effectively a flat budget over the period, increasing the already great pressure on our public services.

“Sinn Féin has made the funding of health our budget priority within the Executive and we will continue to prioritise the support and protection of the Health service for workers and families across the North.”
