SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh Justin McNulty has reaffirmed his party’s support for the Albert Basin Park in Newry City Centre.
Speaking on the issue Mr McNulty stated:
“The SDLP has been and continues to be the strongest advocates and supporters of the 15-acre Park at the Albert Basin in Newry – we are committed to delivery of the first phase of the Park in this Council term, as proposed by the SDLP Council group.
It has been the SDLP that has moved this project forward at every stage through proposals in Council after having to fight hard against opposition from other parties to get it on to the agenda for discussion. Thankfully, other parties eventually recognised the importance of this project to the people of our city and district and rowed in behind our proposals to date at every stage.
While others took time to show their support for this project, the SDLP drove it on, and we will continue to do so. The Park is the top priority for the SDLP in the regeneration of Newry. Our record on this in Council speaks for itself and our support for a 15-acre Park at the Albert Basin is unwavering.”
