Archview Win Seven Goal Thriller

On a bright sunny Saturday afternoon at Willie Davis park, Archview took on an in form Ashgrove Rovers who have gone into the season as potential league favourites.

Ashgrove took a two goal lead heading into half time with goals from Ryan McKeown and JP McCabe who showed electric pace on the wing for Ashgrove showing a young lad with a very bright future.

A stubborn Archview side came out of the second half with a new lease of life pilling on the pressure with Stefan Rice claiming a goal from a header. Ashgrove managed to extend their lead to 3-1 but Archview showed incredible character to fight back with Dean Rice winning a penalty and converting comfortably from the spot to breathe new life into the game.

Simon O’Shaunessy set up the third Archview goal with an incredible pass from the wing setting up Dean Rice to help Archview draw level with 15 minutes left in the game.

Ashgrove valiantly tried their best to fight off Archview who continued to be a threat on goal but finally the winning goal came from that man again Dean Rice who coolly finished off his hat trick and win the game for Archview in the final minutes.

It is difficult enough to predict a potential league winner this early in the season. However goals win games, but character wins league titles which this writer will go on record and predict Archview as dark horses for the Carnbane league Division One title this year. Ashgrove should be commended for their incredible team work and spirit. However Archview showed today that they certainly have the goals but if they can continue the “never say die” character they had shown in this game then they will be hard to beat.
