Responding to the latest Abortion overreach by Brandon Lewis, Aontú Deputy Leader & Cllr for Mid Ulster, Denise Mullen, has slammed this undemocratic imposition of abortion extremism on the North – in violation of devolution, the Good Friday Agreement, and human rights.
Cllr Mullen: “From the outset, the imposition of abortion on the North by Westminster has been undemocratic and in complete violation of the Good Friday Agreement. This imposition was facilitated by both Sinn Féin and the SDLP. Attempts to impose radical abortion regimes on the North have been met with fierce resistance from every corner of society.
Now in the latest instalment of this undemocratic saga, Northern Secretary Brandon Lewis is trying to impose extreme abortion mandates on the North – as if by decree. Where is the outrage from Sinn Féin and the SDLP? There is none, simply because this is of their making – whether they admit it or not. Sinn Féin had reversed 200 years of Republic policy which opposed Westminster legislation for any part of Ireland and actively lobbied London to impose this law.
While the SDLP leadership ditched not only the will of the people of the north but the will of their own party and reversed a right to life policy that went back to John Hume. The Life of the Unborn in the North has been put at the mercy of a Tory in Westminster, without any consultation of the people in the North.”
“Aontú is a party dedicated to Human Rights and equality for all. We are now the only Nationalist party in the north of Ireland that support the Right to Life of everyone. Brandon Lewis has refused to listen to the people of the North, and continues to try and undermine the sanctity of life in the North – against the will of the people. The North says No, and Aontú will do everything in our power to oppose this undemocratic and unconscionable decree from Westminster.”
