Boylan Disappointed in Zero Spend for Active Travel Infrastructure in Armagh City

Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin MLA commenting after  being informed that no funding had been allocated to Armagh City for the construction of active  travel from the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), said that the news was extremely disappointing.

The Newry and Armagh MLA stated:

“I was very disappointed to get a response from the Minister for Infrastructure Nichola Mallon indicating that there is no funding for the construction of active travel infrastructure in the city of Armagh this year.

It’s no secret that this city is plagued with congestion which carries with it severe environmental, economic and health issues.

That’s why we need the right infrastructure in place to encourage people to adopt walking and cycling”.

The  MLA continued,

“ Minister Nichola Mallon in her response to me  also stated that her Department commissioned an active travel feasibility study for Armagh in 2019/20, and that this study along with engagement with councils will help with the development of active travel schemes in the future.

He concluded,

“Its vital that we start to see the delivery of badly needed active travel infrastructure in our city to help tackle congestion, pollution and make our city a cleaner greener and safer place”.
