Man Charged Following Heroin Seizure Outside Newry

Officers from Belfast District Support Team have charged a 63-year old-man with importing a controlled drug, possession of a Class A controlled drug, and possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply.

He is due to appear before Newry Magistrates Court on Wednesday 15th September.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

The charges relate to the seizure of suspected heroin during a proactive stop and search operation on the A1 between Banbridge and Newry yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 24th August).  A quantity of suspected heroin was also seized during a follow-up search at an address in Belfast.  Two females, aged 33 and 57, arrested as part of the same operation on suspicion of a number of drugs offences have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
