Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins has visited the recently refurbished Traffic Information and Control Centre (TICC) in Belfast.
The Traffic Information and Control Centre has been refurbished to create a more collaborative working environment to deal with weather and other emergencies as well as traffic management across NI.
The Centre runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This allows the team to manage and monitor urban and motorway networks, keeping road users up to date and alerting them when issues occur via the TrafficWatch website and social media platform. The TICC team is also responsible for the procurement, design, installation and maintenance of traffic signals and controlled pedestrian crossings.
Minister Kimmins said: “The Traffic Information and Control Centre is at the centre of our traffic management capability, and I want to pay tribute to the team who work around the clock to keep us all moving. This work often goes unseen, but they play a crucial role, particularly in times of emergency, severe weather response and when major events are being hosted here.
“The refurbishment of the centre makes it a more suitable and modern setting to accommodate 24-hour and collaborative work with the Police and other agencies during the increasingly frequent need for storm response or during special events.”
