Sinn Féin Has Selected Three Candidates to Stand In Newry and Armagh In Next Assembly Election In May 2027

Three sitting MLAs, Liz Kimmins, Aoife Finnegan and Cathal Boylan will contest the election for the party next year.

Speaking to hundreds of people at the launch event in the Canal Court Hotel in Newry on Friday evening, Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald TD said the three candidates are ingrained in their communities, work hard every day for people, and live and breathe Newry & Armagh.

Ms McDonald commented, “Here in Newry and Armagh, our objective is to elect three excellent MLAs.

“Across the north, for the Assembly and local councils, we have ambitious targets which focus on growing our representation.

“Let’s seize the opportunity to return the largest ever Sinn Féin team in the Assembly.”

Liz Kimmins MLA said: “I am honoured to be once again selected to contest next year’s Assembly election alongside Aoife Finnegan and Cathal Boylan.

“Newry and Armagh is moving forward to a better future, and Sinn Féin has been at the heart of that change.

“As a mother raising my family in this area, I want my children to grow up with the best opportunities on their doorstep. That means a good education, properly funded health services and affordable housing.

“A vote for Sinn Féin next May is a vote to drive forward positive change and unleash our huge potential.”

Aoife Finnegan MLA commented: “Since entering the Assembly in 2025, I have continued working hard to deliver for local communities.

“Be it in the Assembly or on the ground, I have ensured the voices of local workers and families are not only heard, but listened to.

“We are living in times of enormous change, and this election will be huge in defining the future of our island.

“Next May, let’s deliver the largest and strongest ever Sinn Féin team in the Assembly.”

Cathal Boylan MLA added: “So much has changed since I was first elected in 2007.

“Back then, a republican as First Minister would have been a dream, but certainly not a guarantee.

“But now that is reality. Ireland has changed, and is continuing to change.

“The election next May is an opportunity to continue unlocking Newry and Armagh’s potential and to continue delivering for local communities.

“Next year, elect three Sinn Féin MLAs in Newry and Armagh who will work for real change as part of our party’s largest team across Ireland in over a century.”
