Newry’s Susan McCann Celebrates 50 Years In Show Business

Newry’s Susan McCann, who this year celebrates 50 years in show business, will be joining Daniel O’Donnell to record a special TV show in Derry next month.

Susan will be taking part in OPRY le DANIEL, TG4 television’s highest rating country music concert series, which returns to the Millennium Forum, Derry, for a very special run of shows on 30 June, 1 July and 2 July.

Recorded before a live audience over three nights, with two concerts each evening, OPRY le DANIEL will feature a variety of musical themes and special guest performances.

Susan’s show will be recorded on July 2, where she will be joined by family members and special guest Brendan Quinn.

A host of other great guest artists will join legendary presenter Daniel O’Donnell on stage across the three nights.

The series of shows begins on Tuesday 30 June with a focus on New Opry, featuring Damian Davis (Co. Monaghan), Effie Neill (Co. Cork), and Ruairidh Gray from the Island of South Uist, Outer Hebrides. The second show of the evening, Country n Irish welcomes Margo (Co. Monaghan), New York-based Andy Cooney, and Caitriona Ní Cheannabháin (Co. Galway) to the stage.

On Wednesday 1 July, Daniel will be joined on stage for a Country and Folk show, performing with folk legend Seán Keane (Co. Galway), and Mairead Ní Mhaonaigh, Irish fiddler and lead vocalist with Altan. Contemporary Country artists Donna Taggart (Co. Tyrone), Rachel Goode (Co. Galway), and Simon Casey (Co. Offaly) take to the stage with Daniel for the second show of the evening.

Thursday 2 July focuses on Classic Country, with Country’s very own Susan McCann from Newry, who this year celebrates her 50th anniversary in the business, as she is joined on stage by Brendan Quinn (Co. Derry), and Susan’s daughter Linda and granddaughter Sinead Hegarty. The final show of the night will feature music from Michael English (Co. Laois), Olivia Douglas (Co. Offaly), and David James (Derry).

Daniel O’Donnell said: “I’m delighted once again to be returning to the stage of the Millennium Forum in Derry to record another series of Opry le Daniel for TG4.

“These shows have proved to be very, very well received by audiences all over the country, and we are just delighted to get the chance to do another series.

“Some wonderful guests are coming to take part in the shows, with three wonderful nights of music and song.

“The audiences at the Millennium Forum are always enthusiastic, and I’m sure this year will be no exception.

“This is extra special for me because these shows are some of only a few concerts that I’m doing during my break.

“So, join us at the Millennium Forum on June 30th and the first and second of July for Opry le Daniel.”

Now in its sixteenth season, OPRY le DANIEL continues to attract audiences across Ireland and beyond, featuring some of the biggest names in country music alongside emerging and established Irish talent. Previous guests on the series have included internationally renowned artists such as Charley Pride, Crystal Gayle and Rita Coolidge, together with many of Ireland’s best-loved performers.

OPRY le DANIEL is produced by Big Mountain Productions for TG4.
