Commenting after meeting with representatives from Silverbridge GAA Club to discuss the ongoing safety concerns at Fords Cross, Sinn Féin Councillor Áine Quinn said that urgent attention was required to address the issue.
The local Councillor who was accompanied at the meeting by her colleague Aoife Finnegan MLA said,
“It was great to meet with representatives from the Silverbridge Football Club to discuss the ongoing safety concerns at Ford’s Cross. We had a positive and worthwhile engagement.
This is a long-term issue that requires urgent attention. Both my Party and the local community have been campaigning on this matter for many years.
It appears that addressing some of these safety concerns will likely require legislative changes, however we welcome the Minister Liz Kimmins commitment to reviewing the safety measures at the site.
This is an important first step in ensuring the safety of everyone who uses this road”.
Local MLA Aoife Finnegan commenting on the wider issue of road safety said,
“Sinn Féin remains fully committed to improving road safety across South Armagh and to working with local communities to secure the necessary action”.
Concluding Aoife acknowledged the work of organisations like Road Safety NI.
“I also want to acknowledge the important work carried out by Road Safety NI. They provide vital support to families, friends, and communities who have been bereaved because of road traffic collisions, while continuing to raise awareness of the devastating impact these tragedies have on our communities”.
